Action of Medicine:

This remedy is indicated in weak, anaemic patients who are greatly emaciated and lose flesh while living well. They take cold easily, are hopeless regarding the future, have a violent thirst, an aversion to bread and a desire for salt.
It is useful in intermittent fevers of long standing especially after the abuse of Quinine. The chill is usually at eleven a.m. It is long lasting, and is followed by dry heat and a bursting headache.
It is of service in chronic excoriating, watery diarrhoea that is attended with great burning of the anus and much emaciation. It should be remembered in dyspepsia when the food taken produces a dull aching and distension of the stomach and abdomen. The bilious and dyspeptic symptoms are marked. It is often and important remedy in muscular asthenopia, blepharitis and ciliary neuralgia which comes and goes with the sun. There is great lachrymation which is excoriating. It will relieve scorbutic conditions with a putrid inflammation of the gums and bloody saliva. The tongue is coated white or is mapped. There are aphthae of the mouth and loss of taste. There is no desire for bread, no appetite, but great thirst and a desire for salts.
It is curative in delayed menstruation when the menses delay more and more. There is a violent headache each morning upon awaking, she is sad and gloomy during menses, and there is an acrid, corroding leucorrhoea at other times. It is of service in the chronic chlorosis of cachectic females, with pale, dirty looking skin, oppression of the chest and palpitation of the heart, also in the headaches of anaemic and chlorotic school girls. The headache is worse from sunrise to sunset. The face is red. There is nausea and vomiting before, during and after the menses. It is indicated in eczema when the parts are raw and inflamed, especially about the edges of the hair. The skin about the nails is dry and cracked and there are hangnails.
